Protecting my financial health info…

by on April 28, 2010

I dislike the idea of government, credit companies, insurance companies knowing too much about me and using information out of context in ways that can hurt me.  But, seems to me they already know all that stuff about me and sell it to each other for a profit.  (Without even a royalty, for Pete’s sake!)  And why can’t I have the same protection for my financial health as the HIPPA legislation provides for my physical health?

It’s one thing to have a prison record public info or a bankruptcy.  But little issues make no sense and they have an outsized importance but only speculative relevance to how others make decisions on whether to do business with you.  Lastly, there should be some way to prevent collection people from using it as a lever to collect.  Even though you can respond to a credit report posting by someone, it’s still a black mark.

I dunno why this particular rant bubbled to the surface since I haven’t had a particular incident in quite a while.  I guess it was just one of those things that always bugged me.  The best line I ever heard describing the banking industry was “They sell umbrellas on sunny days…and want them back when it rains”.
